Top Seeds Fall on Thursday

No. 1 and No. 2 seeds out on women’s side

LEXINGTON, Ky. – It was another day of massive upsets on Thursday at the 2018 Kentucky Bank Tennis Championships as the No. 1 and No. 2 overall seeds both were ousted in the women’s draw as Arantxa Rus (NED) and Arina Rodionova (AUS) both lost in the afternoon session – busting open the women’s draw.

On the men’s side, Lloyd Harris (RSA), the No. 6 overall seed in the tournament eased his way into the quarterfinals with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Kaichi Uchida (JPN) to cement his place in the last eight.

Yunseong Chung (KOR) outlasted qualifier Jeffrey John Wolf (USA) in the most exciting match of the day that lasted two hours and 33 minutes. Wolf served for the match in the third set at 5-3, but was unable to convert and was broken at 5-6 to lose the match 6-3, 6-7 (9), 7-5 on the main court as Chung marked his spot in the quarters.

In the night session in front of a big crowd, the No. 7 seed in the men’s draw Jay Clarke (GBR) def. Andrew Harris (AUS) 6-3, 6-3 in just over an hour and 20 minutes without dropping serve as he punched the last ticket into the men’s quarterfinals.
