Muhammad, Harris Crowned Champions of 2018 Kentucky Bank

Asia Muhammad and Lloyd Harris win titles

LEXINGTON, Ky. – On a hot and humid day in Lexington, the play was even hotter on Championship Sunday presented by Michelob Ultra at the Hillary J. Boone Varsity Tennis Center on the campus of the University of Kentucky in Lexington.

On the men’s side, Lloyd Harris (RSA) was impressive all day, not dropping serve once and only facing one break point in the match to beat No. 8 seeded Stefano Napolitano (ITA) in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3. Harris broke at four all in the first set and then served out a 6-4 win in the opening frame. Harris then broke twice early in the second set to win the 2018 title, 6-3 in the second set.

In the women’s final – Asia Muhammad broke at five all in the first set to take a 7-5 win in the opening frame. In the heat, it was a long and tense opening set in which both players got breaks – but Muhammad used the 5-5 break to hold serve and make it a one set to love lead. In the second set, Muhammad got ahead an early break at 2-0 and didn’t look back, breaking twice more for a 7-5, 6-1 win over Ann Li (USA).

The titles for Muhammad and Harris are their first in the Kentucky Bank Tennis Championships at the Boone Tennis Center in Lexington.

The 2019 tournament will be held in Lexington again and will run July 27 to August 4.
